B. subtilis-based PGPR Screening Service

B. subtilis-based PGPR Screening Service

Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis) is a bacterium that gives a beneficial effect on crop production. It produces antimicrobial metabolites that protect plants from pathogens. Therefore, it is used as a biopesticide or biofertilizer in ecological agriculture.

B. subtilis is very important for ecological agriculture. CD BioSciences provides an advanced technology platform for B. subtilis-based PGPR (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria) screening service. Our MicroScanTM technology platform is development to meet customer's personalized customization needs.

Overview of B. subtilis

  • Basics about B. subtilis
Introduction to B. subtilis

B. subtilis, that forms spores, is a rod-shaped, Gram-positive bacterium. It was renamed Bacillus subtilis in 1872. In addition, the bacteria can be called Bacillus uniflagellatus, Bacillus globigii and Bacillus natto. B. subtilis is discovered in soil, the gastrointestinal tract of ruminants, humans and marine sponges.

  • Root Colonization by B. subtilis

B. subtilis is permanently colonized in the rhizosphere. After 24 hours of contact between B. subtilis and the roots of the plant, a thin biofilm, which caused by the presence of plant molecules, such as cell wall polysaccharides and malic acid, is formed in the roots. Then, it enhances the host's ability to resist adverse external factors.

The Biological Activity of B. subtilis

Direct Stimulation of Plant Growth

Direct Stimulation of Plant Growth
B. subtilis can directly synthesize many things that are beneficial to the host, such as many secondary metabolites, antioxidants, hormones, and cell wall degrading enzymes. These substances can help the host plant to defend itself against pathogenic attack.

Indirect Stimulation of Plant Growth

Indirect Stimulation of Plant Growth
B. subtilis promotes the uptake of nutrients by plant roots as well as enhancing nitrogen fixation in plants by dissolving P in the soil. In addition, it produces glucosinol, which promotes its growth and inhibits the growth of pathogens.

Inducing Gene Expression

Inducing Gene Expression
By inducing the expression of stress response genes and stress-related secondary metabolites and promoting phytohormone expression, B. subtilis enhances the ability of its plant hosts to withstand adverse external environments.

Our Services

CD BioSciences provides probiotics screening service using B. subtilis as an indicator strain. Our MicroScanTM technology platform can discovery bacteria strains that promote the growth of the indicator strain, which together can be further developed as plant growth promoting rhizobacteria. This platform provides a new approach for screening and detecting microbial interactions and it can be applied to any microbial flora.

  • Single Bacteria Strain Discovery
Identifying single bacterial stains that can be mixed with B. subtilis
  • Combination of Bacteria Strains Discovery
Identifying a mixture of bacteria strains that can be mixed with B. subtilis
