Bacteria Phenotype Analysis

Bacteria Phenotype Analysis

The sum of shapes such as morphological and physiological characteristics that bacteria exhibit in their growth in a specific external environment is called the phenotype. Phenotype is mainly influenced by the genotype and environment of the organism.

CD BioSciences provides an advanced service technology platform for bacteria phenotype analysis. Our MicroScanTM technology platform is development to meet customer's personalized customization needs.

Bacteria Phenotype Analysis

Overview of Bacteria Phenotype Analysis

Phenotypic microbial identification is the classical method of microbial taxonomic identification. The morphology, physicochemical characteristics and characteristic chemical composition of microbial cells are used as indicators to compare with the differences of typical microorganisms for rapid identification. Bacterial phenotype analysis can provide complementary information for bacterial identification at the cellular level.

Phenotypic Characteristics of Bacteria

  • Morphology
Bacteria can be divided into two main groups: Gram-negative and positive. The three main categories of cell shape include cocci, bacilli and spirochetes. In addition, the presence or absence of special structures, such as pods and flagella, is of interest.
  • Physiological Properties
Different bacteria from the same environment may differ significantly in their physiological characteristics due to differences in genetic factors. The classification is more accurate by testing in oxygen tolerance, pH value, optimum temperature range and other indicators.
  • Biochemical Reactions
The diversity of bacterial metabolic types is reflected in the diversity of biochemical reactions, which is therefore often used as an important basis in the identification of bacterial taxonomy. Commonly used indicators include carbon source utilization, oxidation forms, enzyme patterns, etc.

Our Services

In order to save phenotypic screening time and experimental resources, CD BioSciences has introduced the MicroScanTM technology platform. The technology platform allows for the detection of multiple experimental indicators at the same time and can be performed with a small consumption of experimental reagents and strain resources. Researchers evaluate multiple phenotypes of bacterial cells in a single experiment, allowing for improved accuracy of the experiment as well. More, the technology platform can also be customized with different detection reagents to meet other customer requirements for bacterial phenotypic screening. Bacteria phenotypic analysis service content is shown in the following table.
