E. amylovora-based Plant Pathogenic Bacteria Screening Service

E. amylovora-based Plant Pathogenic Bacteria Screening Service

Fire blight is a disease caused by Erwinia amylovora (E. amylovora) that affects entire apple and pear trees. It can also infect other members of the subfamily Rosaceae. As pathogen resistance compromises streptomycin's effectiveness in controlling fire blight, there is growing interest in biological control of this disease.

CD BioSciences provides an advanced technology platform for E. amylovora-based plant pathogenic bacteria screening service using E. amylovora as an indicator strain. The unique MicroScanTM technology platform is designed to discover bacteria that can inhibit the indicator strain. The purpose is to contribute to the biological control of fire blight.

Overview of E. amylovora

Basics about E. amylovora

  • E. amylovora is a gram negative, facultative anaerobic, short rod-shaped bacterium. This bacterium is motile at 37°C and non-motile at 28°C.
  • In 1993, E. amylovora was first detected in Austria. Infections caused by E. amylovora, once spread, cannot be treated effectively.
  • As the resistance of E. amylovora increases, the resistance of existing antibiotics such as streptomycin to bacteria is getting weaker and weaker.

How E. amylovora Affect Plants

  • By entering flowers, stomata, and various wound sites, E. amylovora can cause plant susceptibility.
  • The most typical symptoms of infection are that the leaves and trunks are scorched and blackened by the fire, and the withered parts are not easy to fall off.
  • Pathogens directly cause flower wilting by infecting opening-flowers, and then transfer to young shoots. Pathogens directly infect open flowers causing flower wilting and then transfer to young shoots. Other symptoms include canker blight, traumatic blight, rootstock blight.
  • With the help of insects, rain, birds, and human activity, E. amylovora spreads widely in the environment.

Our Service

CD BioSciences provides E. amylovora-based plant pathogenic bacteria screening service. Multiple physiological subspecies of related strains could be provided for customers. With abundant bacterial resources, CD BioSciences can do its best to achieve customers' wishes. The unique MicroScanTM technology platform can discover bacteria strains that Inhibit the growth of the indicator strain. These specific strains may be used as biocontrol or producers of unique antimicrobial drugs. Compared with traditional technology, the new technology platform can save more manpower and material resources. This platform, which is developed to meet customer's personalized customization needs, provides a new approach for screening and detecting microbial interactions and it can be applied to any microbial flora.
